This grade of stainless steel, an upgrade of grade 347, contains a higher carbon content that enhances its high-temperature properties. The tantalum and chromium additions also stabilize the 347H Alloy Instrumentation Valves, providing high-stress and creep-resistant features.
Stainless Steel 347, also known as UNS S34700 austenitic stainless steel, is a niobium-based material with excellent resistance to general and pitting corrosion. It also offers great resistance to intergranular corrosion in a temperature range of 427 to 816 degrees C of chromium carbide precipitation. The chemical composition of the Grade 347 Instrumentation Valves includes C: 0.08 max, Mn: 0.08 max, Si: 1.0 max, P: 0.045 max, S: 0.030 max, Cr: 17.00 – 19.00, N: 0.10 max, Ni: 9.00 – 12.00, Ti: 0.70 max. Adding niobium in these austenitic stainless-steel valves helps resist carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion.
